Jacob Hashimoto. Kites

Hashimoto’s work threads together intricately-crafted miniature ‘kites’ to form monumental tapestries, alluding to imagery found within analog vistas,  video games and other types of early digital displays – with his latest iteration titled ‘near the edge of the world’. these kite elements are roped together in chains,  which are then stretched taut between short dowels that project from wall-mounted brackets, generating a heavily layered fusion of image and pattern.  The work references the ‘meta-history’ of contemporary art,  generating a continuously changing illusion of light, space, motion, and sense of flight.
